The Laser Printer

The first laser printer was introduced by IBM in 1875.

The computer sends data to the printer and the printer send a signal back. A photconductive drum is charged and a high intensity laser beam is used to discharge areas on the drum. The drum rotates and transferes the toner to the paper. A heater fixes the tone onto the paper.

The laser printer is an output device.

There are two types of laser printers - continuous form and cut sheet.

Continous Form - these are best for single-part production print runs that need the print quality of laser level.

Cut Sheet - these are best for letterheads, envelopes and small print jobs.

The printer of the future is a device that would create printouts that could change depending on where a person touched the paper.
The device would let an end user to layer multiple pages of information onto a single page. Space needed to store document would be compacted.
